ALR 136
member Jerry "Jarhead"
Allen is home recuperating
from the Deer accident last week , should be fine. His son (Raymond)
asked if I would notify all his Dad's ALR family of how much he and
the family appreciated our concern, thoughts , prayers & visits that
Jarhead received. He expressed how thankful he was that his Dad
belonged to such a tight knit group and what being a member the ALR
family means.

Riders : last night "Jarhead" hit a deer at
127th E. & 95th South (between Derby & Rose Hill) on his way home from
a welcome home and dinner ride. He is in intensive care at Wesley
Hospital, Wichita room 4-434. I spoke with his son ( Raymond ) he
advised that Jarhead wants no visitors today. Raymond will keep us
posted. So far they know he has a fractured skull, and some broken
bones and road rash but the Doc's feel he will be fine. More tests and x-rays at 0700 today.
Will keep all posted. Please keep Jarhead in your
thoughts & prayers. For those that don't know this Marine personally
he is very active in our Mission and advises us of Flag Protocol
constantly (gotta love him ) Ride Free & Safe !

Update:
ALR members have visited the family at the
hospital and offered assistance. Family will contact us if they need
anything.
Ray and Terri Allen
just called. The doctor finally came in and discussed test results.
Jerry has a small peripheral hematoma behind his right eye, but the
doctor says it is not cause for concern. He also has some collective
bleeding in the brain, but it is "all together" and has stopped, and
the doctor isn't worried about that either. X-rays revealed that his
thumb is not broken.
Jerry asked to go home now. They told him he
has to be able to walk on his own, so he said, "Well, let's GO." (He's
getting cranky.) He's not ready for a mile run yet. He is cognizant of
everything going on, and his eyes check out OK. He has some tenderness
in his neck, and that is cause for concern, so they want to keep him
under observation for that, as well as for general principles. Bottom
line - he just survived a crash with a deer, and they want to be sure
he's OK before they let him go.
If anyone talks to him, remind him that
sometimes bad things happen after the patient goes home too soon, and
they can treat those things a lot faster if he's still IN the hospital
than if he's out in Timbuktu where he lives.
