Philip Pistilli Silver Veteran's Medal from Combined Arms Center Commander, Lt. Gen. David Petraeus at the Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award Foundation luncheon May 8, 2006.

In August 2005, during her second tour in Iraq, Master Sgt. Juanita Milligan of Andover, Kansas was injured when an improvised explosive device detonated near her vehicle.

A Reserve Soldier serving with the 179th Transportation Company from Belton, Mo., Milligan was on a convoy security mission when the IED exploded near her up-armored humvee.  Milligan saw the device a split second before it went off and she reacted by diving across the vehicle to try and pull her gunner down into the humvee. The gunner was safe, but Milligan sustained severe injuries to the right side of her body. With shrapnel throughout her body, her right arm severely injured and her femur broken in three places, Milligan's Soldiers put her in another vehicle and drove solo, without a gunner, back down the supply road to the nearest field hospital.

Since then, Milligan has had numerous surgeries and is still enduring in the face of adversity.  The Patriot Guard and ALR Members have come together to assist Milligan with household and landscaping projects as a way to say thank you for her tremendous sacrifice.
